Description
At the very end of Fagasa Road, the Tula Observatory Lookout offers sweeping views across Tutuila’s wild northeast coast – even if you can’t access the observatory itself. Run by NOAA, the site monitors weather and climate patterns, and while visits require advance permission, most travellers come for the garden paths and the wooden stairway descent to the rocky shoreline. With 178 steps (plus one broken one), the path leads to one of the island’s most dramatic and secluded vantage points, stretching all the way to the distant Pola Islands.
Highlights
- Visit one of Tutuila’s most breathtaking coastal viewpoints
- Descend 178 stairs through hibiscus gardens to the rocky shore
- Learn about American Samoa’s climate monitoring (by prior request)
