Description
One of American Samoa’s most accessible ancient sites, Tia Seu Lupe is a stone platform once used for the chiefly sport of pigeon catching. These tia-style star mounds once dotted the Tafuna plain but are now mostly found in forested foothills like this one. Set beside a lush rainforest reserve, this spot blends cultural history with natural beauty – and if you're lucky, you'll spot the very birds (lupe) the mound was designed for. It's an easy visit near Tafuna, though be aware of occasional rubbish in the area.
Highlights
- Visit a rare example of a traditional tia mound used for pigeon catching
- Located next to a rainforest reserve with birds and local wildlife
- Easy access near Tafuna and St Mary Catholic Church
