Description

Towering above Pago Pago Harbour, the Mt ‘Alava Trail offers one of the most rewarding day hikes in American Samoa. This 7 mi (11.3 km) one-way trek follows a scenic ridgeline through tropical forest and conservation areas, with sweeping views over the island’s coastline and valleys. The trail climbs steadily from Fagasa Pass, passing old communications towers and native birdlife along the way. While the summit stairs are currently closed due to storm damage, the lookout point just below still delivers stunning panoramas.

Highlights

  • Hike a forested ridgeline with incredible coastal and harbour views
  • Pass historic radio towers and bird-filled native bush
  • Visit a key conservation site where native species are being restored
