Description
Less travelled and packed with history, the Fatifati Auala Trail offers a rugged rainforest adventure on Tutuila. Beginning beside the high-wire fence at the Mt ‘Alava trailhead, this 3 km (2 mi) return hike winds steeply through jungle ridgelines and rope-assisted climbs. Along the way, you'll pass traditional star mounds and ancient village sites hidden in the forest. It’s a physically demanding trail, but the sweeping views from Fagaloa Viewpoint – and the chance to extend to Mt ‘Alava – make it worth the effort.
Highlights
- Hike an ancient jungle path with rope-assisted climbs
- Spot hidden archaeological sites like star mounds and village terraces
- Reach Fagaloa Viewpoint or continue to Mt ‘Alava for a bigger challenge
