Description
This building once served as the barracks for the Fitafita Guard, a local security force during the US Navy's administration of the territory in the early 20th century. The historic structure offers visitors a glimpse into American Samoa's unique past when the islands were governed by naval officers. While the building has weathered challenges over the decades, including fires in the 1970s and 2017, it remains a testament to the territory's colonial heritage. The site also housed the original fono building, which locals affectionately called "fale seila," adding another layer to its governmental significance. Renamed in 2019 to honour former commissioner Afioga Galeai Moaaliitele Tuufuli, this working police station continues to serve the community while preserving its historical importance.
